Around 15 percent fewer accidents with fatalities and injuries

So far this year, Hessen has had around 15 percent fewer accidents with fatalities and injuries. Due to the corona lockdown, the streets were sometimes considerably less busy.

A rarer picture: In Hessen, the number of traffic accidents is falling.

Dhe number of road traffic accidents with fatalities or injuries in Hesse fell by almost 15 percent in the first three quarters compared to the same period in the previous year. From January to September 2020, people were injured in a total of 13,267 accidents, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Wiesbaden.

Of the 17,163 casualties, 156 died – 20 fewer than in the same period in 2019. Especially during the Corona lockdown in spring, the streets were sometimes considerably less than usual.

Fewer accidental deaths in autumn too

In September 2020, the number of accidents with fatalities or injuries fell by five percent compared to the same month last year, as the statisticians announced. According to the State Office, a total of 1,875 accidents occurred in September 2020.

Of the 2,398 casualties, 20 died – five fewer than in the same month of 2019. With 400 people, 10 percent fewer road users were seriously injured, the number of slightly injured people reportedly fell by almost 4 percent to 1978 people.
