The Anti-Cruelty Society said they hosted a “Fall in Love” event where many animals found a forever home but sweet 3-year-old Elvis came back to the shelter without a family.
A photo posted to Facebook on Nov. 14 showed Elvis as the only dog in a room full of empty kennels but it didn’t take long for news to travel.
Just two days later, the shelter said his adoption was pending.
Marketing and Communications Manager Danny Cady said Elvis was originally brought in by the Field Services team as a stray dog with a limp.
“After one of our veterinarians took x-rays, we learned that he had a fractured pelvis. While in our River North shelter, Elvis underwent therapy and care, but he will still be prone to arthritis as he ages,” Cady added.
With a smile that lights up every room and an affectionate personality, Elvis will finally go home after 132 days in the shelter.
“Elvis’ story is one of resilience and perseverance, demonstrating the incredible impact that compassion can have on the lives of those in need,” the shelter said.
His new family said they had been waiting for the right time to welcome a dog into their family and once they saw Elvis on the news they couldn’t deny it was fate.
“Loren (left) had worked as an Elvis impersonator in his past and plans to keep his iconic name!” the shelter said. “This couple is head over heels in love with their new family member and already has a dog bed and tons of toys waiting for him at his forever home.”
Before bidding Elvis adieu, one of his dads said “When no one else wanted him, we found him. We’re all a bunch of misfits.”
