We love weather themed pet names, so to see some nature-ish names on the top 100 most popular dogs names in the U.S. was a delight!
US News & World Report used a sample of more than 800,000 dog names from across the United States to determine the most popular. The data was provided by a pet insurance company. Spoiler alert: if your dog is named Bella, you’re not alone. From the sample data, 5% of dogs have that name – making Bella “top dog”.

And a few more names we love made it into the top 100, including Bear, Lily, Rosie, Willow, Moose and Shadow.

The study broke down the data by state as well. Bella is the most popular dog name in 37 states, followed by Luna with eight. Charlie is the most popular dog name in two states. In Alaska, Copper is tops, while more dogs in Hawaii answer to Boo than any other name.
So, if you’re choosing a dog name at any time in the near future, the full list could give you something to think about.
