Pennsylvania shelter’s longest resident finds new home

ARC said that Ella was their longest resident, and they’d been looking to find her a new home for the last seven years. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Ella, a pit bull, arrived at the shelter when she was five months old. Over the years, several pet parents adopted her but had to return her to the shelter for various reasons.

“When Ella first saw Kaitlyn, we think she already knew, that this is MY person,” ARC wrote on Facebook. The shelter stated that Ella “has fear aggression and needs multiple visits for her to get comfortable with you.” However, to their surprise, Ella instantly got along with Kaitlyn.

“She immediately walked over to Kaitlyn with no hesitation, allowing her to give Ella scratches and pets right away.” Touchingly, Kaitlyn saw Ella wearing her late dog Jo’s bandana, which she’d donated after he passed away.

“Tears now filling staff’s eyes as well- out of the 20 dogs in our shelter right now, this bandana. This specific bandana. Jo’s bandana. It was on Ella,” the shelter’s post explained. She reportedly also told them she likes to think of it as “Jo’s stamp of approval.” Kaitlyn adopted Ella shortly after the meeting.

ARC said they’d miss Ella greeting people at the door of her kennel every morning. They concluded the post by saying, “We’ll miss that tomorrow, it’ll be such a bittersweet moment realizing that as we pause to reflect on a few of our favorites times with Ella- but my goodness the amount of pure happiness we will feel everyday knowing Ella finally got what she deserved: ELLA GOT ADOPTED.”
